In order to participate in the State Convention, students have to participate in an event for convention.   Participants are chosen based on these things:

Steps to Possibly Make It to State Beta Convention in Nashville

on November  22nd, 23rd, and 24th, 2009. 

Theme is "Beta-A Circle of Winners"

Step 1

Join Beta by the deadline that has been set forth which is  September 15, 2009 @ 3:15pm to Mr. Kaliszak.

Be a member in good standing:

               -No ISS or OSS

               -No N’s or U’s in Conduct from current or previous year. 

            -Student should not be on probation from the previous year. 

            -Met attendance and service project participation requirements from previous year and current year.

Step 2

Look at Beta List posted and decide what events to participate in.  

***STUDENTS MAY TRY OUT FOR AS MANY EVENTS AS THEY WISH.

Step 3

Participate in an academic competition held at designated time which is after school on Tuesday, September 15, 2009 or turn in project by designated date which is Tuesday, September 15, 2009.  

Projects:

***T-Shirt Desgin-Themed- "Beta-A Circle of Winners"   

***Arts & Crafts-These can be unfinished, but we need to look at the progress on the designated date to make a judgment of what should proceed to convention.  

***Essay-Themed- "Beta-A Circle of Winners" 

***Academic Competions-Battle of the Books, Math, Poetry, Poster, Quiz Bowl, Spelling, Speech, TN History, and Tower of Power

***If student is unable to attend on the designated day, he or she needs to contact a Beta sponsor PRIOR to day of competitions to make arrangements for an alternate time and/or date. 


Step 4

Wait to see the results on Thursday, September 17, 2009 of what events have already been filled and look at what else remains open. 

 

Step 5

Turn in items for a second time for events that remain open by designated date which is Friday, September 25, 2009.  

 

Step 6

Wait for results on Monday, September 28, 2009 !!!

 

Step 7

When there are remaining positions available, Beta sponsors look at the previous year’s attendance, service projects, and teacher recommendations from teachers the student had the previous year and those of the current year.
