Sevierville Middle School
Vision Statement

Recognizing children as our future, we actively engage, challenge, and empower all students as they strive to attain their highest potential in order to succeed in our global society.

Statements of Belief

The SMS community of learners comprised of the students, faculty, staff, parents, and our network of outside supporters believe that:

  1. All students can learn, achieve, succeed, and become caring, and contributing citizens of an interdependent, diverse and ever-changing global society.
  2. Each student is a valued individual with unique academic, physical, emotional, and social needs.
  3. A student’s self-worth is enhanced by opportunities for respectful interaction with adult role models, positive peer relationships, and development of character and values.
  4. Problem solving and critical thinking skills are essential for student success, academically and in life.
  5. A safe, nurturing and challenging learning environment actively engages students and assists students in making responsible decisions.
  6. Instructional practices, activities, and assessments should be reflective and accommodate individual differences in learning styles, abilities, and multicultural experience.
  7. All educators should possess a working knowledge of the middle school age group, and be lifelong learners committed to ongoing professional development and growth.
  8. The students, faculty, staff and parents of Sevierville Middle School and our network of outside resources work in partnership as a community of learners.
  9. We work together in an atmosphere of trust and respect to ensure that our collective and individual actions are consistent with these beliefs.
  10. The school and community must share a commitment to continuous improvement to carry out Sevierville Middle School’s mission and vision.
