• While in the computer lab the 6th grade students will be working on keyboarding skills. It is important that students develop, master and utilize proper keyboarding techniques. The first 15 minutes of class time is dedicated to developing these skills.
• While in the computer lab the 6th grade students will learn to use:
1. Paint
2. Word
3. Internet (for research)
• Using Paint students will learn to use tools to create graphics that can be imported into other programs (Word, Webpages, projects, etc.)
• Microsoft Word is the word processing program that we use here at SMS. Students will learn to format pages, spell check, import graphics, add shapes, and numerous other operations.
• Students will be expected to use the Internet in their regular classrooms as well as the computer lab to do research on projects and present their findings to their classmates. Not only will students learn proper and effective research techniques but they will also learn Internet safety rules. 
• Students will learn how to save information to a disk, organize their c:, create and delete folders, and how a computer works.
