Background for READ 180
    READ 180 was developed and researched by Vanderbuilt University for Scholastic Books.  The concept of "turning a student around" (hense the 180 in the title) is at the core of the program.  Its very nature is intensive and uplifting.  The effects of the program not only include improved reading skills and comprehension but also higher self-esteem, motivation, and improved behavior that carries over not only in regular reading classes but in their core subjects as well. 
    Next year Sevierville Middle School will have an upgrade to the Enterprise Edition of the program.  This will include new computer readings and challenges, additional books for the Independent Reading Library (with many having CD's so the student may read along), and upgrades in the small group activities.  This will also include additional training for the teachers involved in the form of workshops to handle the new material and challenges of the "new and improved" version.
