Eighth Grade Discipline
Plan
Dear Parents,
We are delighted
that your child will be in our classes this year. We all look forward
to many exciting and rewarding experiences as the year progresses.
We have developed
a TEAM DISCIPLINE PLAN that affords every student the opportunity to
manage his/her own behavior. Your child deserves the most positive
educational climate possible for academic growth; therefore, this plan
will be in effect at all times.
Team Rules:
1. Follow directions the first time
they are given.
2. Bring necessary materials to
class, be in assigned seat when the bells rings, and leave when
dismissed by the teacher.
3. Keep hands, feet, and objects to
yourself.
4. Do not talk or leave your seat
during teacher directed instruction, and stay on task at all times.
5. Observe all school rules.
6. Gum is an automatic demerit.
7. Be respectful of others AND put
forth your best effort every day.
Rewards: Students will be rewarded
with verbal praise, positive contacts to parents, class rewards, and
team rewards including videos, games, field trips, and special events.
Consequences: If a student chooses to
break a rule:
1st Time: Verbal warning
2nd Time: Demerit
3rd Time: Isolation in classroom
4th Time: Contact parents
5th Time: Office referral/ In-school
suspension
Conduct Grade: Each child will earn a
TEAM CONDUCT grade based on the number of demerits earned during the
six weeks in the academic content classes. The total number of demerits
earned in all academic classes will be added to achieve a team conduct
grade based on the following scale:
0 – 9 demerits = (S)atisfactory
10 – 14 demerits = (N)eeds improvement
15 or more demerits = (U)nsatisfactory
20 or more demerits = U in conduct plus In-School Suspension
The number of days in ISS will be
determined by office personnel on an individual basis and will be based
on the number of demerits and the offenses for which they were earned.
Students will also earn a conduct
grade in each activity class. Because students will have 2 activity
classes each six weeks, this will result in 3 separate conduct grades:
the Team conduct and 2 activity conduct grades. Any student earning 2
F’s, 2 N’s, or a U in conduct will lose field trip and/ or team reward
privileges for the following six weeks. Any student earning TEAM
CONDUCT grades of 3 N’s or U’s or any combinations thereof over the
course of the school year will lose field trip privileges for the
remainder of the year, including the end-of-the-year field trip. This
policy applies even if payment for the trip has been made.
Daily Expectations:
Homeroom: Students will follow team
rules and respectfully observe the Pledge of Allegiance and Moment of
Silence and be attentive during morning announcements and Channel One
News.
Hallway: Students will walk in a safe
manner through the hallways keeping hands, feet, and objects to
themselves. Students will abstain from horseplay.
Dismissal: Students will pay
attention to and follow dismissal procedures from the PA announcements,
faculty, and staff.
We have reviewed the TEAM DISCIPLINE
PLAN with our students. We would also like for you to review the plan
with your child. We will communicate with you frequently during
the year to keep you aware of your child’s progress. Feel free to
contact us at any time.
Thank
You,
Eighth Grade Teachers
