Free Verse-poetry that does not have regular rhythm or rhyme

Lines-This is how poetry is written.  These may or may not be in complete sentences.  (each one of these is numbered)

Concrete Poem-A poem that is written in the shape of its topic.
 
Rhyme-This term means words end with the same sound.
 
Cinquain Poem-A five line poem that has a specific syllable pattern.  (2, 4, 6, 8, 2)

Rhythm - The beat of the poem

Biopoem - A descriptive poem about yourself.

Accent - The syllables emphasized or stressed when reading a poem aloud.

Limerick - An Irish inspired poem that has five lines.
                  Lines 1, 2, and 5 rhyme; and lines 3 and 4 rhyme in this poem.

Alliteration - The repetition of the first consonant sound in words close to each other.

Stanza - This is a group of lines. (It looks like a paragraph.)

Imagery-The words and phrases used in poetry that appeal to your five senses.

Haiku-A seventeen syllable poem that was inspired by the Japanese.

Personification-This term means to give an object or animal "life-like qualities.

Hyperbole-An exaggeration that makes a point.

Onomatopoeia-A word that sounds like what it describes.

Acrostic-A vertical word that has descriptive terms branching out from each letter.
