We spend a
large
portion of our time on daily living skills to promote independence.
Students
need lots of practice in natural settings outside the classroom. Please
practice life skills with your child as much as possible. Students
practice
these skills at school, but they need to continue skills taught at
school
at home.

Be sure that you are doing
reading homework nightly. Check Composition books for assignments and
notes.
- Counting Money- isolated
amounts
of coins, coin combinations, bills and
coins, pay for items with the correct amount, check change,
make change
- Telling Time- tell time to
the
hour, 1/2 hour, 1/4 hour, 5 minutes, one minute,
make time conversions, tell time on clock with hands and digital
clock
- Completing Forms- read and
follow
directions, complete
personal information (name, address, phone number,
birth date, and social security number), read important
information, know what you are signing before providing
your signature
- Calendar Skills - name days
and
months in order, identify date, locate date
given directions, write down important reminders on calendar
- Locating Information- find
numbers
in phone book, find words in dictionary
and encyclopedia, identify parts of the newspaper,
locate information in newspaper
-Job Skills- listen to
directions,
follow directions, cooperate, be honest,
complete tasks, be prepared with materials, get along with others,
accept negative criticism without an attitude, be responsible
-Being Prepared- Students need
to
be responsible for coming to class with
paper and pencils. Many students are borrowing paper and
pencils instead of bringing and keeping their own. Their boss
will not like it if they show up to work without the materials
to work. Please help me prepare your child to be a
responsible employee.
